First time posting here. Great site. I've learned a ton from all of you. I recently purchased a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i with 89,000 miles from my Mom who really didn't keep up with it very well. But I am not complaining because it runs great and I was able to get it from her for a great price. I've spent the last week just simply getting it cleaned up and looking nice again.
Anyway, one of the things on my 'to do' list is to get the 2 button remote working (separate from the key). When the buttons are pressed the remote's little LED does light but nothing seems to happen in the car. The LED on the dash above the stock stereo flashes once every few seconds or so (haven't timed it to be exact). I followed the instructions from the security system book to the letter (starting by closing all doors, trunk, and hood, opening and sitting in the seat and closing the door, cycling the ignition to the 2nd position 5 times, etc.) and it isn't working. So a couple of questions: 1. In step 2 of the instructions it says: The security system must be in 'disarm' mode. The key must be removed from the ignition key slot. I get that the key must be removed from the ignition. But how do I know the system is in 'disarm' mode. 2. In step 6 it says (after cycling the ignition switch 5 times): The red status LED will illuminate continuously, and the siren will 'chirp' once, to indicate that the code-learning mode has been initiated. I get the single 'chirp' but the red status LED on the dash does not illuminate continously. It just keeps its every few second single flash and never changes. I go through the rest of the steps and I get the 2 'chirp' confirmation at the end after closing the driver's door at the very end but the LED still keeps its every few second single flash going like nothing ever happened and the remote still doesn't lock or unlock or arm or anything. I think the fact that my LED isn't illuminating continously in step 6 is probably the reason it isn't work but didn't know why it isn't doing what the instructions say. Anything that I can check? Thanks very much.
